Garden Weed Control

Weeds are undesirable plants growing in an unwanted place or among the crop for same needs such as water, sunlight, nutrients and space. They are usually the native plants which are best adapted to the environment they grow in. The seeds produced by these weeds can lie dormant in the soil for many years germinating when it is cultivated.
Weeds are a common menace in any garden and need to be controlled. However it must be stated that some weeds have many useful attributes. A weed is a nuisance because it is growing in the wrong place and might be displeasing to the eye, or it might hinder the growth of the carefully planted crop and also cause economic damage.
Weeds also can be categorized as annuals, biennials and perennials. Annuals germinate and mature in one season and die away leaving its supply of seeds to germinate. These weeds should be removed before they produce any seeds. Biennials take two seasons to mature enough to produce seed and then they die away. Perennials are the most difficult weed to get rid of.
Garden weed control is no easy task. But garden weed control can be approached in two methods that is weed removal and weed prevention.
Garden weed control by weed removal is not simply removing the visible part of the weed. It is important to first identify the growth habits of the weed. Perennial weeds can grow again from fleshy roots or underground stems. When removing a weed it is important to uproot the entire plant to avoid it from cropping up again. It is best to use a hand fork or hand grubber to loosen the roots of larger weeds. Uprooting has to be done continuously until all the weeds are eliminated. Garden weed control by up rooting is quite a tiresome job and requires a lot of effort and energy. But in the long run garden weed control can be considered a good exercise for the gardener.
For perennial weeds with deep roots, it is best to use a weed killer which will kill the weed in a few days.
Garden weed control by weed prevention would involve a bit of proactive work on the part of the gardener where he or she is expected to remove weeds before planting.
The best way to do garden weed control through prevention is to use a mulch of bark chips or gravel.
Bark chips is a better substance as it covers the light and does not blow around so much. But it needs to be replenished sooner as it converts in to compost.
In conclusion garden weed control is done better when more time is spent on preparation, with mulch used to prevent germination of seeds.

Organic Insecticide

An insecticide refers to a pesticide targeted at insects in particular. By that it also covers insects at all stages of life including larvae and eggs. Insects in particular are known to do the most damage to agriculture and have been known to do so ever since man has been involved in agriculture. However there are two key variants of battle against them. While chemical based insecticides have been widely used in the past they are also know for almost certainly altering eco systems and being toxic to man and animals in general. This precise reason has brought about a swing towards organic insecticides. While this type of solutions don?t always work for complete and successful results like a chemical based solution would, the redeeming factors tied to organic insecticides are far too significant to ignore and belittle. Especially when they are known to have little or no ill effect to humans and the overall environment.

When considering organic insecticides, you can increase its success rate by knowing the type of insects and what they are most averse to. This will save you time, cost and effort by helping you find the most suitable type of organic insecticide to come to your rescue. The life stage of the insects will also help you decide on the most suitable method of action, intensity and the period of application. The type of usage will also need to be considered in selecting a suitable organic insecticide. This is because the requirement for a home garden is far different to the requirements of large scale farming. Having considered all these variables, it is now time to consider some of the options available when looking at organic insecticides as a means of fighting insects that are causing harm to your vegetation.

Pyrethrum is one option you could look at when considering organic pesticides. Although it is known to be somewhat toxic, this particular type of organic insecticide is taken from the chrysanthemum flower which is usually imported from countries like Ecuador or Kenya. The effect of this is to paralyze the insect and is most successful when combined with another poisonous agent. Nicotine is yet another solution which is diluted in water and sprayed on the affected vegetation. Nicotine works particularly well when used on sucking insects such as aphids, thrips, whiteflies and leafhoppers and when used during the summer. Other choices include Sabadilla, Rotenone and Neem.

Finally the importance of safety must be stressed when using organic insecticides. It is imperative to practice safety precautions like you would do with chemical based variations to be on the safe side. Just because the base is non chemical does not mean you can risk using organic insecticides with no proper safety procedures in place.

Ant Pest Control

Shop WindChime.com today!

As much as people might want to deny it, everybody’s homes are inflicted with pest problems. The most common pest problems are termites, cockroaches, spiders, beetles, mites and ants. Most often ants are the biggest problem in a household. They are small enough to go unnoticed yet they are numerous enough to be everywhere and their colonies can grow to a significant size if not checked.

Generally the easiest way to get rid of an ant infestation is to call an exterminator. However, there are easier methods of ant pest control available that may be much cheaper than using an ant pest control company. In order to control and ant problem one must understand how ants behave. Ants usually invade homes to forage for food or to find a new place for a colony nest. Therefore, there are two strategies of ant pest control that can be used to better combat an ant problem. First you must identify whether the ants live on the outside and forage inside, or whether they have a nest built and are spreading from there. Knowing the situation allows you to better employ ant pest control methods.

To control ant problems you can use ant control granules, contact pesticides, ant sprays, ant baits and insecticide dusts for ant pest control. However, as mentioned before, some of these methods are better employed against the worker ants that do the foraging from outside while others work better against the ant colony as a whole.

The most effective strategy against ants that forage from outside is quite simple. First, you should cracks and gaps in doors and walls should be sealed off to prevent an entry point for ants. It will be impossible for seal off every entrance as ants are extremely good at finding a way into your house. After this is done, you should clean around those entry points with some kind of detergent to prevent ants from tracking the pheromone left by previous ants that leads them to the food. Ant baiting is also useful if it is placed in a place of ant activity so that the bait is taken back to the colony. This method of ant pest control will take time. Just remember that if the bait is reducing you must replace it and that means that it is working.

The other ant pest control strategy deals with ants that have already established a colony inside your home. Again, the main method of dealing with this problem is ant baits. Most people employ an ant repellent to keep ants away from a food source. However, this will only provide short-term control as the ants will still thrive. A better method would be to use non-repellent insecticides as the ants will not know that it is present and take it back to the colony. Ant baits will work as mentioned before as the worker ants will take the bait back to the nest and this will result in the death of the colony.
