The work can refresh your thoughts from other worries and with success you can also save some money on your food bill. If you are new at the gardening experience, a few gardening tips can help you find your way.
Before you start planting, check your local almanac to find out when the best planting times are. These guides will usually give you the best times to plant various different vegetables. Many people do not believe in this theory, but farmers all over the country depend on it.
If you buy seeds, there are usually some gardening tips on the seed package. Most packages will have a map of the United States on the back with color coded areas. You can use this code to determine when the best time to plant that vegetable in your area is.
Be careful not to rush into your planting season because you have had a few pretty days. In many areas of the country those few pretty days are only a tease. There is usually some more cold weather still to come. Plan around the kind of weather conditions that are normal in your area.
Gardening Tips For Successful Transplanting
In the beginning, when you are transplanting small plants to your garden, is the time these plants are the most vulnerable. They have had the shock of going from a controlled environment to being totally out in the elements. Try planting them later in the day after the temperatures have cooled. Always water them when you plant them and add root starter for added insurance. If possible, shield them from the direct sunlight for a few days until they have had time to take root.
Growing your plants from seeds is usually more economical and will provide a stronger plant. Your local plant and garden store will probably have a small book with some gardening tips to help you get started. If you can’t find one there, check your local library. A little research can go a long way towards helping you grow healthy plants that have a high yield.
Once you start seeing those little plants poke their heads through the soil you will need to tenderly care for them. Just like a baby, they are young and delicate. This is the time when they are growing the fastest so you must keep them fed. At this stage water will be the ingredient they need the most. There will be time for plant food later when they have gained in size and strength.
You can always check out the Internet for some free gardening tips but keep in mind that not all areas are the same. If possible, try to search for the best planting times and what types of plants do well in your local area. Successful gardening is rewarding once you start picking the fruits of your labor.
